GET SENATE TO ALLOW WIDOWS OF ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY TO USE SPACE-A FLIGHTS
GET SENATE TO ALLOW WIDOWS OF ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY TO USE SPACE-A FLIGHTS
The Issue
My name is Lindsay Serrano,
I am a medically retired navy veteran of operation enduring freedom. I recently learned that widows of active duty military members cannot receive the benefit of Space-A travel. Something that I was just granted access to in 2018 as a retiree. I feel if my spouse and I can use Space-A it is completely unjust for those who have paid the ultimate price to not be entitled to the same. On the DOD Space-A website FAQ section it stated that there have been bills introduced to the senate but have not gotten any further. Upon further research, I can’t find the bill anywhere.
This is an issue I am passionate about as a veteran. And I truly believe we could fix this issue and help military families everywhere.
This is a BI-PARTISAN solution to an issue both parties can get behind. Something we don’t come by a lot these days. With a house and senate so divided, I think we can all agree on one thing; those who have lost their lives and the families they left behind have paid the ultimate price for OUR FREEDOM. If you are a true patriot and someone who cares about families of military personnel including their children that are now mother or fatherless... this is the moment you can become an activist for something that will change lives for little to ZERO cost.
The space-a flights have helped me in so many ways. Emergency trips, funeral flights, vacation, and moving. It is an essential for anyone who doesn’t have the money for travel. Especially since I live in Alaska. I feel like even if they do have travel money they should definitely be allowed to use the program, they already paid an ultimate price and should be treated as such. It wouldn’t cost anything more than what we are already spending on basically “hitchhiking” on an already planned flight. There are already categories set up for priority, I also think they should be CAT1-2(high priority). The channels are there, we need to make people aware.
