Presently, our nation is beset by an overabundance of laws, regulations, and rules governing the ownership of firearms, making it unduly burdensome for law-abiding US citizens to acquire them. These prohibitive policies disproportionately affect law-abiding citizens, while criminals still find ways to acquire guns illegally, putting law-abiding citizens at a disadvantage (source: FBI crime report). As stated by the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution, citizens have the right to keep and bear arms. In the face of the rising spate of crime, it is essential that legal avenues for gun ownership be made more accessible to citizens for their personal protection. The strict gun laws are reducing the deterrent factor of potential victims against criminals (source: National Bureau of Economic Research). The goal of this petition is to promote reforms that loosen these onerous laws, thereby making it easier for US citizens to own a legal gun. We call upon our legislators to rethink the current strict gun laws and make the necessary changes. First we should talk with our representative to discuss gun laws and how we should make them less strict. When we gather supporters we can create a bill to lossen the strictness on gun rights. But we can’t do this by ourselves by signing this petition we can all work together in order to create the change in our society!
