City Capitulates and Mows the Park

Friends of Allendale Shreveport Times reporter, Lex Talamo, learned that we were organizing to mow the grass at Allendale's SWEPCO Park after the city had halted mowing after beginning to mow it this week for the first time this year since quietly removing all of the playground equipment in February. We had hoped the playground equipment was going to be replaced with modern equipment. Who knows? Maybe the Smithsonian was needing examples of mid 20th Century playgrounds. What we didn't know then was that Federal Highway Administration has rules against building a highway through a public park. It seems the mayor was trying to make the park unusable and then decommission it. Here is the Friday story from Shreveport Times. Please share and ask others to sign our petition.
