Stay of Execution for Allendale

2,500 Friends of Allendale
Sep 9, 2016
A quick update from today's NLCOG meeting that was to announce two routes for further study. The meeting opened with a surprise announcement from Providence Engineering of Baton Rouge, the company that won the $3 million dollar contract to study this issue, that the Federal Highway Administration had notified them this week that they had not done their homework and that none of the routes could be studied until issues are cleared up.
The western route through Allendale was rejected because the Catholic Church, Our Lady, sits right in the middle of it and doesn't want to move. The eastern route was rejected because it travels partially through Ledbetter Heights, a Registered Hostoric Landmark. The two central routes don't qualify, for now, because of SWEPCO Park, a city park and therefor deemed off limits for a FHWA project.
Mayor Tyler promised to find a remedy for this with Shreveport Parks and Recreation so stay tuned and use that park in the mean time. The next time this can be considered would be early 2017.
Thank you for your support and please share our petition. It seems that Washington is listening.
