Try BP Corp, as person, for murder. Liquidate to pay $192B it owes.

The Issue

No one should be above the law. Loss of life and environmental damage from BP's Gulf oil spill was due to "willful and egregious" pattern of regulatory disregard by BP. Their costly PR campaign to repair their image shows a they have no real contrition for their actions. Dwindling oil reserves mean fewer oil companies are necessary. Bad apples should be removed to reward those who follow rules. The link below details the full tabulated cost of the BP spill, a very small fraction of which has been recovered by legal action to this point.

Since the $192 billion in fines (in 2012 dollars) noted above is over the value of the company, BP should be liquidated and the funds from this used to recompense in the best way possible the damage it did.

The Trump administration can sby  pursuing action in this case, dispel the impression that our government will allow mammoth corporations to run roughshhod over  environmental quality.
