Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely, who conduct their affairs with justice (psalm 112:5) We have decided to live in a European community whose aim is to strengthen social support and solidarity between their members.

Italy is the country that suffers tremendously from the corona-crisis and has the highest mortality-rate. ( salute.gov.it/nuovocoronavirus) In times of crisis it shows, in private and in society, who you can count on when help is needed.

The values of the EU are defined by respect for the dignity of every human being and the keeping and protecting of human rights.

But to a community all this is worthless, when in a crisis all the single members of this community take their own decisions and measures of protection and the European Commission takes no decision to force and support a united handling of the crisis. Indeed we now experience a separation from each other.

We let Italy down! Despite of Italy’s cry for help and their need for protective clothing and all the necessary medical equipment there was no reaction from Brussels! The only thing that is of any importance to Brussels are economic growth and money.

All the human tragedy connected to this crisis doesn’t count. People die without the comfort and support of their loved ones, because they are not allowed to be near them any longer. Medical staff have been working to exhaustions for weeks now and have reached their limits. And once, when the crisis hopefully is over we will be facing the next problem: traumatized people who will never be able to forget.

Italy will probably never be the same wonderful country again as we have all experienced it and love it!

The EU is confronted with the greatest challenge in standing together in this crisis.

We demand:

1. Urgent mobilization of all the means according to Art.222 AEUV
2. Organization of all the medical equipment and support asked for by Italy
3. Support in constructing and equipping new hospitals
4. Mobilization and reactivation of medical staff in all over Europe
5. Participation of all companies important for the support in medical affairs
6. Coordination of the increased production of protective clothing masks etc. where most needed- in Italy!

We can of course understand the idea of a ‘’national’’ priority of all the members of the EU but we should not forget about our social responsibility towards Italy- our neighbours-  who need our help most!
