Urine and full health check for babies under 1 who goes to urgent care or a&e
The Issue
My little girl went to urgent care three times within two hospitals, only to be told each time it was a throat infection and sent on her way without any antibiotics. The NHS failed us, and the heartbreak I went through was horrible. In reality, my seven-month-old had a severe urinary tract infection that turned into sepsis because no one bothered to even check her urine. Lucky , a baby doctor saved her from being sent home again. My story could have ended very differently if it wasn’t for this of that doctor.
Many parents face a similar struggle when seeking medical attention for their infants. We are often made to feel like our concerns are unfounded or that we are overreacting when our babies are in pain. Too often, parents are dismissed with explanations of teething or viral infections without thorough examinations. In particular, babies under one year old should receive comprehensive medical check-ups to catch any severe conditions early.
The goal of this petition is to urge the NHS to put policies in place that require complete health checks for babies under one year old, especially focusing on checking urine to prevent undiagnosed urinary tract infections. According to NHS statistics, hundreds of thousands of children are seen by their services each year, and too many serious conditions fly under the radar in these crucial early months.
Ensuring that every baby receives a thorough examination can prevent tragic outcomes stemming from undiagnosed conditions. We call on healthcare providers to adopt more rigorous examination protocols, including mandatory urine checks, for young children. Please sign this petition to help save lives and prevent heartache for countless families.
