URGENT: STOP CHARA’S EUTHANASIA SCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 2026 — GIVE HER A CHANCE TO LIVE
To the Leadership and Board of Directors of Mutts of the Midway:
We urgently ask that Chara’s euthanasia, scheduled for Thursday, September 10, 2026, be immediately postponed and that her case be fully and professionally evaluated before any irreversible decision is made.
Chara is a nine-year-old pit bull mix who joined her foster family on July 31. Since then, she has received love, stability, and dedicated care throughout her medical treatments and her most recent surgery.
During the time she has been in the care of her regular foster family, they have not observed aggressive behavior toward people. She has been around adults and children and has shown herself to be sweet, affectionate, patient, intelligent, well-behaved, and loving. She has also been in proximity to other dogs without her foster family observing aggressive behavior.
While her regular foster family had to travel out of state, Chara was temporarily placed in another foster home. During that stay, a tragic incident occurred involving one of the resident dogs. The dogs were not kept separated as intended, an interaction occurred, and Chara bit the other dog. Tragically, that dog did not survive.
We do not minimize this loss. Another dog’s life was lost, and we fully recognize the seriousness and heartbreak of what happened.
However, we ask that Chara’s entire life and future not be defined solely by one tragic incident that occurred under circumstances involving a breakdown in management and separation. Dogs depend on the humans responsible for them to manage their environment and establish appropriate safeguards.
Before Chara’s life is ended, we are asking for something reasonable: an opportunity for her to be evaluated by a board-certified veterinary behaviorist.
An appropriately qualified professional should be given the opportunity to assess Chara, the circumstances surrounding the incident, her behavior, her needs, and any potential risks, and determine whether a safe and responsible management plan exists.
Chara already has a family willing to adopt her.
Her foster family is prepared to formally adopt Chara and provide the financial resources, veterinary care, love, stability, professional training, behavioral support, and safety measures necessary to protect both Chara and those around her. They also have the support of individuals and organizations willing to help provide resources and professional assistance.
We are not asking anyone to ignore what happened.
We are not asking anyone to disregard safety.
We are asking that this tragedy be considered in its full context and that Chara’s actual behavioral risk be professionally evaluated before an irreversible decision is carried out on Thursday, September 10.
If that professional evaluation determines that Chara can live safely under appropriate management, her foster family is prepared to give her that home and accept that responsibility.
Please postpone Chara’s euthanasia scheduled for Thursday, September 10, 2026.
Please allow Chara to be evaluated by a board-certified veterinary behaviorist.
Please allow her foster family the opportunity to adopt her and provide the safe, structured environment she needs.

Pedimos urgentemente que la eutanasia de Chara, programada para el jueves 10 de septiembre de 2026, sea pospuesta inmediatamente y que su caso sea evaluado completa y profesionalmente antes de tomar una decisión irreversible.
Chara es una pitbull mix de nueve años que llegó con su familia de acogida el 31 de julio. Desde entonces, ha recibido amor, estabilidad y cuidados constantes durante sus tratamientos médicos y su cirugía más reciente.
Durante el tiempo que ha permanecido bajo el cuidado de su familia de acogida habitual, no han observado comportamiento agresivo hacia personas. Ha estado alrededor de adultos y niños y ha demostrado ser una perrita dulce, cariñosa, paciente, inteligente, bien portada y amorosa. También ha estado cerca de otros perros sin que su familia de acogida haya observado comportamiento agresivo.
Cuando su familia de acogida tuvo que viajar fuera del estado, Chara fue colocada temporalmente en otro hogar de acogida. Durante esa estancia ocurrió un incidente trágico con uno de los perros residentes. Los perros no se mantuvieron separados como estaba previsto, ocurrió una interacción y Chara mordió al otro perro. Trágicamente, ese perrito no sobrevivió.
No estamos minimizando esta pérdida. Se perdió la vida de otro perro y reconocemos plenamente la gravedad y el dolor de lo sucedido.
Sin embargo, pedimos que toda la vida y el futuro de Chara no sean definidos únicamente por un incidente trágico ocurrido bajo circunstancias en las que hubo una falla en el manejo y la separación. Los perros dependen de los seres humanos responsables de ellos para controlar su entorno y establecer las medidas de seguridad apropiadas.
Antes de terminar con la vida de Chara, estamos pidiendo algo razonable: que tenga la oportunidad de ser evaluada por un veterinario especialista en comportamiento certificado (board-certified veterinary behaviorist).
