🚨 URGENT TODAY-TOMORROW - FEDERAL ACTION ALERT: H.R. 8000 – “End 7-OH Act”
A new federal bill has just been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives and will be heard in the Energy & Commerce Sub-Committee on Health, Chaired by Rep Morgan Griffith of Virginia, on March 26th, that could have serious consequences for 7-OH consumers nationwide.
H.R. 8000 — the “End 7-OH Act” — would classify 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) as a Schedule I controlled substance at the federal level.
If enacted, this legislation could criminalize 7-OH nationwide and significantly impact access to safe and legal products, while also creating major barriers for scientific research into the compound.
This proposal is moving quickly, and lawmakers need to hear directly from constituents immediately.
What Advocates Need To Do Right Now
We are asking supporters to call members of Congress today and tomorrow and respectfully urge them to:
- Oppose H.R. 8000 and any attempt to schedule 7-OH as Schedule I
- Support science-based policymaking instead of premature prohibition
- Protect consumer access while allowing continued research into kratom and its compounds
📞 Call Congressional Offices - CONTACT SHEET HERE
Even a short call from a constituent can make a difference as lawmakers begin reviewing the bill.

Minnesota
SF 3711 - Kratom Ban
In Minnesota, a kratom ban bill will get its first hearing on March 25 in Senate Judiciary at 12:30 pm. SF 3711 would add kratom and its alkaloids, including 7-OH, to Schedule II - effectively prohibiting access. A 21+ age restriction bill - SF 3704, which we support - will also be heard.
Please submit testimony by March 24, 2026, 9:00 am to Nicole Kaplan, committee administrator, at nicole.kaplan@mnsenate.gov. Testimony must be in Word or PDF format. If you’d like to testify during the committee hearing, please note that in your email.
You may also email committee members directly at this link.

Iowa
HF 2133 – Kratom Ban Moves Forward
In Iowa, HF 2133, a bill that would schedule kratom as a Schedule I controlled substance, has passed the Iowa House of Representatives.
The focus now shifts to the Iowa Senate, where advocates still have an opportunity to stop the ban.
Importantly, there is strong support among some lawmakers for regulation instead of prohibition.
Because of this, grassroots outreach right now can make a major difference.
What Advocates Should Do
We are asking supporters to contact Iowa Senate Republicans and respectfully ask them to:
- Oppose scheduling kratom as a Schedule I substance
- Reject prohibition of the natural kratom plant in any form, including the natural kratom compound, 7-hydroxymitragynine
- Support commonsense consumer protections and responsible regulation

Michigan
HB 5537 – Kratom Ban Passes House
Michigan lawmakers passed HB 5537, a bill that would schedule kratom and criminalize the manufacturing, sale, growing, and production of kratom products in the state.
The bill passed the House on a 56–48 vote and has now been transmitted to the Michigan Senate, where it awaits introduction and committee referral.
While the bill does not criminalize possession, it would effectively eliminate legal access by targeting vendors and supply chains.
This means advocate engagement in the Senate could make a real difference.
