Stoneyford National School has been denied additional Special Needs Assistant (SNA) hours following a recent NCSE review, leaving the school with an insufficient allocation to meet pupils’ needs. As a result of being directed to redeploy SNAs to areas of highest need, mainstream pupils who require SNA support currently have no access to it. This has led to teachers stepping into SNA roles, disrupting learning support timetables and causing pupils with additional educational needs to miss vital teaching time.

The shortfall also severely limits the school’s ability to meaningfully integrate pupils from its autism and moderate general learning disability classes into mainstream settings. Despite significant care needs in these classes, inadequate staffing prevents integration from happening as intended.
