On June 26, five teenagers were tragically killed in an accident on Challenger Street and Topgolf Way. These devastating deaths have left our community grieving and demanding immediate action to prevent further loss of life. 

As a long-time Topgolf employee, I have driven down this street for the last two years. There is a very hard curve on the road, yet no curve warning or signage is posted on the street. Drivers keep speed on this road without realizing a hard curve leads directly into a body of water. As someone who works so close to this street - I know I have to do something about this to help prevent any more loss of life for my colleagues and others local to the community. 

The lack of proper safety measures on these roads has contributed to these fatal accidents. That’s why we urgently request the installation of either curve signs, a stop sign, or a barrier railing at critical points along Challenger St. and Topgolf Way. This will enhance road safety for all residents and visitors.

1. Curve Signs: The absence of clear signage warning drivers about upcoming curves poses a significant risk to motorists unfamiliar with the area or those who may be driving at excessive speeds. By installing curve signs at appropriate locations along these roads, we can effectively alert drivers in advance and reduce the likelihood of accidents caused by sudden turns.

2. Stop Signs: Introducing a stop sign at key intersections will help regulate traffic flow and ensure drivers approach cautiously before proceeding onto busy roads like Challenger St. and Topgolf Way. This measure will reduce the risk of collisions between vehicles entering from side streets or driveways.

3. Barrier Railings: A barrier railing is essential for preventing vehicles from veering off-road during unexpected circumstances or due to driver error while traveling along challenging sections such as curves or steep inclines found on Challenger St. and Topgolf Way. Installing sturdy barriers will provide additional protection against tragic accidents resulting from cars leaving the roadway.

We urge city officials, transportation departments, and relevant authorities to prioritize the safety of our community by taking swift action. We implore you to install either curve signs, a stop sign, or a barrier railing on Challenger St. and Topgolf Way as soon as possible. In making these changes, we can protect our loved ones and prevent further loss of life by ensuring these roads are safe for all residents and visitors of Fort Myers, Florida.
