The Issue

We are calling on Surrey County Council and our local representatives to take urgent action to address the persistent speeding on Creston Avenue in Knaphill before another preventable tragedy occurs.

For many residents, speeding has become a daily occurrence. Vehicles regularly travel at excessive speeds, creating fear for families, pedestrians, cyclists, pets and other road users.

Recent events have made it clear that this issue can no longer be ignored.

Within just two days, two family cats were killed by speeding vehicles on Creston Avenue. One of them was our beloved 15-month-old cat, Luna. While some may see this as "just a pet," to our family she was a much-loved member of our household, and her loss has left us heartbroken.

Even more concerning, on 28th July, a member of the public was struck by a vehicle on the same road. This demonstrates that the risks extend far beyond animals and that human lives are also at stake.

On the evening the second cat was killed, residents gathered around the animal while it lay in the road. During this time, vehicles continued speeding through the area. Despite residents waving their arms to encourage drivers to slow down, several simply accelerated past, showing a shocking disregard for the safety of those present and the seriousness of the situation.

These incidents are not isolated—they are symptoms of an ongoing problem that residents have been raising for some time.

We are asking Surrey County Council to:

Carry out an urgent speed survey on Creston Avenue.
Install temporary speed monitoring equipment.
Increase speed enforcement in partnership with the police.
Assess and implement appropriate traffic-calming measures, such as speed humps, raised tables, chicanes, or Speed Indicator Devices (SID signs).
Meet with local residents to discuss long-term solutions to improve safety.
This campaign is not about blaming responsible drivers. It is about protecting our community and preventing further tragedies.

Today it has been beloved pets. Tomorrow it could be a child walking home from school, an elderly resident crossing the road, or another pedestrian.

Please sign this petition to show your support for safer roads in Knaphill and help us encourage urgent action before someone loses their life.

Every signature sends a clear message: our community deserves safer streets.
