Urgent: Request for WFH Due to Unsafe, Unaffordable Commute Conditions
Urgent: Request for WFH Due to Unsafe, Unaffordable Commute Conditions
The Issue
Employees were told they’d have WFH for six weeks due to disruptions from the NFL Draft and now have one week’s notice that this is being reversed.
We, the undersigned employees, are requesting an immediate implementation of a temporary remote work (WFH) option due to sudden and significant changes impacting access to the workplace.
With only one week’s notice that WFH is no longer an option, employees are now facing:
- Sharp increases in daily parking costs which are not financially feasible for many
- Severely limited or unavailable parking options within a reasonable distance
- Increased personal safety concerns, including long walking distances and reliance on public transit with limited safe or reliable options during early morning or evening commutes
Impact to employees and operations includes:
- Inability for some employees to afford to come to work
- Heightened safety risks and liability concerns during commutes
- Increased stress affecting focus and job performance
- Risk of staffing call-offs, lateness, and overall staffing instability
We respectfully request the implementation of temporary WFH for the duration of this disruption.
This solution allows employees to continue performing their roles effectively while addressing urgent safety and financial concerns.
We are committed to supporting operations and maintaining productivity, and we ask for prompt action given the immediacy of these challenges.
The workplace demonstrated the ability to operate remotely for an extended period, with employees successfully working from home during the 2020 closures. This confirms that remote work is both feasible and effective in maintaining productivity. This is not a capability issue.
