The Issue

Take This Petition as an Emergency

We are launching this petition on behalf of lakhs of aspirants preparing for public sector banking examinations including IBPS Clerk, IBPS PO, RRB Clerk, and RRB PO. This petition represents the collective voice and demand of thousands of students whose careers and futures depend on these examinations.

At present, the maximum age limit is:

28 years for IBPS Clerk and RRB Clerk
30 years for IBPS PO and RRB PO

However, the age eligibility criteria in several other major government sectors are much higher:

Railways – 33 years
UPSC – 32 years
Many State PSCs – up to 40 years

The banking sector is the backbone of the Indian economy and provides employment opportunities to lakhs of youth every year. Despite this, deserving aspirants are denied opportunities solely because they cross the age of 28 or 30. This creates a major inconsistency in government recruitment policies.

If candidates above 30 years of age are considered eligible and capable of serving in important sectors such as Railways, UPSC, and State Public Service Commissions, then there is no valid reason to deny them opportunities in the banking sector.

We also request authorities to consider the severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic during 2020 and 2021. Due to lockdowns, uncertainty, exam delays, and financial hardships, countless aspirants lost crucial years of preparation and opportunities. Many students continue to face mental stress, financial pressure, and uncertainty regarding their future careers.

It is also important to note that age eligibility criteria in banking examinations have been revised in the past according to changing circumstances and recruitment needs. In 2014, the maximum age limit for IBPS PO and SBI PO was increased from 28 years to 30 years. Similarly, in 2015, the age limit for RRB PO was also revised from 28 years to 30 years. These precedents clearly establish that age limit revisions are possible when justified in the interest of aspirants and fair opportunity.

An important employment sector like banking should provide fair and equal opportunities instead of restricting aspirants through comparatively lower age limits.

Our Demands

- Increase the maximum age limit for IBPS Clerk and RRB Clerk to 30 years (currently 28 years).
- Increase the maximum age limit for IBPS PO and RRB PO to 32 years (currently 30 years).
- Extend similar age relaxation and fair eligibility consideration to other relevant public sector banking examinations wherever applicable.
- Standardize the age calculation process by considering candidates’ age as of 1st January of the notification year to ensure transparency, consistency, and stability in recruitment.

We sincerely request the concerned authorities and the Government of India to treat this issue with urgency and provide justice to lakhs of banking aspirants across the country.
