The Issue

We’ll Cut Right to the Point — Westerlo, NY Needs Your Signature

Our small town of Westerlo, New York, has been shaken once again by tragedy.

On June 30, 2025, another fatal crash occurred at the intersection of County Routes 401 and 404. This was not an isolated incident — it was one of over two dozen serious accidents at this very spot, many resulting in life-altering injuries and heartbreaking fatalities.

This latest death, like so many before it, might have been prevented.

Despite the repeated tragedies, officials continue to claim the intersection “meets federal standards for signage.” But the facts — and the toll on our community — tell a very different story. A few years ago, even an Albany County Sheriff responding to a call blew through the same stop sign and struck a resident. If professionally trained law enforcement can miss the signage, how can everyday drivers be expected to safely navigate it?

We’re not asking for much — just some traffic signal improvements! A simple blinking warning light, maybe? Something effective. Something that could save lives.

So far, no action has been taken. No approvals granted. And our community continues to suffer the consequences.

We need your help.
Please sign our petition and stand with Westerlo in calling for this urgent safety improvement. Let’s prevent the next tragedy — before it happens.

Together, we can finally bring change to the intersection of County Routes 401 and 404.
