Urgent necessity to stop the culling of wild animals in India after declaring them vermin
The Issue
All The Leading newspapers in India have carried a shocking news today informing the public about the unscientific decision of Indian Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) to cull many endangered species of wild animals. Already 200 Nilgai (enclosed here with the pictures of Nilgai which is also known as Blue Bull) have been shot by hired shooters in Bihar’s Mokama area over the past three days. The MoEF have also given permission to cull peacocks in Goa and elephants in West Bengal. The term vermin is usually used in Indian language to express animals and creatures which are declared as nuisance to human beings who reside near forest areas. But in India this type of culling of endangered species of wild animals is first of its kind in the 69 years history of Independent India. This type of killing is done by the tacit support of the MoEF Minister who is a former official of Bank of Baroda. The Ruling Party of India is Rightwing Hindu Bharatiya Janatha Party which considers Cow as a Holy Animal. But the same political party keeps its minister in power even after his Ministry had given permission to cull these endangered species of wild animals. The real cause for compelling the wild animals to move from forest areas into human inhibiting farm lands is the destruction of their habitat inside the forest areas by villagers for cultivating various crops with the tacit support of political parties. These political parties use these cultivators as vote bank for increasing their political power in various states of India. Many states in India are now reeling under hot weather and shortage of drinking water mainly due to the destruction of wetlands and destruction of forest areas. Based on all these facts, I expect that your authoritative office will issue strict orders to stop further culling of the above mentioned endangered species of wild animals in various states of Indian Union.
