Urgent intervention required: Dental technology Degree accreditation crisis

Urgent intervention required: Dental technology Degree accreditation crisis
The Issue
I am a student of the Dental Technology programme at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), and I am writing to express my deep concern and frustration over the ongoing accreditation crisis affecting our qualification. My journey, like many of my fellow students, has been fraught with uncertainty and anxiety due to the lack of proper accreditation and compliance with regulatory requirements. I was supposed to graduate this year and fulfill my dream of becoming a registered Dental Technician, yet my path has been blocked by issues beyond my control.
This crisis is not just a personal issue; it is a widespread problem that affects all current and future students in the Dental Technology programme. Without recognition from reputable accreditation bodies, our qualifications are rendered invalid, jeopardising our future careers and the health sector that relies on qualified professionals. The lack of action threatens to produce graduates who cannot practice legally, wasting both time and resources spent on education.
We urge the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) Management, the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), the South African Parliament and the South African Dental Technicians Council (SADTC) to address this crisis immediately. We request a transparent outline of the steps being taken to restore accreditation and compliance. It's imperative that these institutions take immediate corrective actions to align with the necessary standards to ensure that we, as students, can continue our studies, graduate on time, and enter the workforce as certified professionals.
It's critical to maintain the integrity and credibility of the Dental Technology qualification. We believe that through concerted efforts, this accreditation crisis can be resolved. We call upon everyone affected by this crisis to lend their voice to this cause.
Please sign this petition to urge the relevant authorities to take urgent action and secure our educational and professional futures.
