I, as the creator of this petition, am deeply concerned about the current state of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) assessments conducted by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). It is evident that many individuals are being assessed incorrectly, resulting in their applications being refused despite their genuine need for support. This issue persists even after waiting for an extended period of up to 6 months.

As someone who personally experienced this flawed assessment process, I claimed PIP in March 2023 due to severe mobility issues that restrict my ability to walk more than very short distances. However, my application was unjustly refused in September on the grounds that I could walk normally. This decision not only disregards my daily struggles but also undermines the purpose of PIP – providing essential assistance to those who genuinely require it.

The next step available to me is a Mandatory Reconsideration; however, it has become increasingly clear that these reconsiderations rarely result in amended decisions. Consequently, countless individuals who should rightfully be entitled to PIP continue to be denied access to vital financial support.

A few people, whom I have met recently, have had a similar experience but, unlike myself, have not continued with their claim any further after being refused due to the high possibility of the decision not being amended. How many people in the UK have made the same decision to not continue even though they were very possibly incorrectly assessed as well?

Day by day incorrect decisions continue to be made therefore the earlier changes to assessments are implemented by the DWP will reduce the ongoing amount of incorrect decisions being made.

It is imperative that we address this pressing issue without delay. The DWP must expedite the implementation of published changes regarding PIP assessments rather than waiting until 2024 or potentially even later. By doing so, we can ensure fairness and accuracy in determining eligibility for PIP benefits.

This petition aims not only to rectify past injustices but also prevent future instances where deserving individuals are unjustly denied access to essential support services. Together, we can make a difference by urging the DWP and relevant authorities to take immediate action.
