Urgent: Help Us Save Sherman Oaks Joann's Fabric & Craft Store

Urgent: Help Us Save Sherman Oaks Joann's Fabric & Craft Store
The Issue
Crafts retailer Joann going out of business; 19,000 jobs lost -- THAT many jobs just at Joann's -- the impact across the board outside of the business is enormous!
Things got much worse on 2/22/2025... Gordon Brothers was outbid on restructure/closing. GA Group bid on Joann's assets and unfortunately won.
Even though GA Group claimed to care about the Joann employees and customers, it does not! Originally some stores would stay open to "right-size" but GA Group has decided that there is no reason to keep anything open. Too bad Scott Carpenter of GA Group does not see the importance of having someplace like Joann's...but then again, this is the same group that handled clients such as Bed, Bath & Beyond, JC Penney, and Toys R Us.
My understanding is that the Sherman Oaks store will close by the end of March... We need to let GA Group know that Joann's does not need to completely be dismantled! It is worth saving with the right management.

As a passionate crafter and a member of a vibrant community that relies on Joann's, the impending closure of the beloved Sherman Oaks store feels deeply personal.
Joann's, a beloved and essential store for our community, is planning to close all four of its locations in the San Fernando Valley, including the top-performing Sherman Oaks store. This store serves hundreds of thousands of residents annually from in and around the San Fernando Valley, including areas from West LA to Pasadena to the Antelope Valley. Many choose this location over others because it offers something unique and irreplaceable—a comprehensive one-stop shop for all things sewing and crafting.
This decision will have far-reaching consequences beyond just the home crafters and sewers. The impact extends to, but is not inclusive of:
- The Film and TV Industry: Costume designers, set designers, and prop makers rely heavily on the Sherman Oaks Joann's for their materials.
- Small Businesses: Many local entrepreneurs have built their livelihoods on crafts and products sourced from the Sherman Oaks Joann's.
- Schools: Educational institutions depend on the Sherman Oaks Joann's for project materials and supplies.
The Sherman Oaks store, in particular, is one of the top-selling locations in the nation, demonstrating its importance and success. Closing the Sherman Oaks Joann’s store will create a significant void in our community, affecting countless individuals and businesses mentioned above.
For many of us, young and old alike, Joann's is a place where creativity is sparked, passions are discovered, skills are built, and joy is found in creating something beautiful with our hands. The closure of this store is a significant loss, not just for current crafters, but for future generations who may never experience the pleasure we've come to associate with this store. Without Joann's, we lose a crucial resource that supports hobbyists, professionals, and everyone in between.
Considering the global arts and crafts market was valued at approximately USD 45.28 billion in 2024 and is expected to reach USD 74.27 billion by 2033, according to The Association For Creative Industries, it's evident that this Joann's location is a vital part of this growing industry.
If you share our love for crafting and sewing and want to keep the spirit of creation alive in our Los Angeles community, please sign this petition. Let's show the Gordon Brothers decision-makers how much Joann's means to us. Your signature can make a difference. Together, we can save the Sherman Oaks Joann's.
