Urgent Government Funding for Animal Shelters / Welfare in Dominican Republic

Urgent Government Funding for Animal Shelters / Welfare in Dominican Republic
The Issue
There are an estimated 500,000 stray Cats and Dogs on the island mass of Dominican Republic 🇩🇴 And there is no government funding, Or resources for animal welfare.
This is a country whose GDP has been growing Consistently by 5% for the past 10 years. Yet they are operating as a third world country when it comes to the decency of animal welfare.
In Punta Cana, where myself and many expats reside, a home to the most famous All inclusive Resorts you will see strays being poisoned to be controlled or transported to outside areas to fend and suffer on their own.
The few animal rescues around are privately funded and are doing their best but it’s not enough. Without Government allocated consistent funds we cannot build the infrastructures needed for housing, medical services/ spay and neutering to control the population across the island.
Your signature will be 1 of 10,000 Signature's to take it to congress, urging the authorities to consider this serious issue and allocate the necessary funding to protect and improve the lives of these animals and contribute to a healthier community. Let's be the voice for these voiceless stray dogs and cats in Dominican Republic. Thank you
in Addition:
-Public Health Concerns -
The issue of stray animals is not just a personal concern; it's a growing community problem. According to recent statistics, the stray animal population continues to rise, leading to increased health risks not only for the animals but also for the residents. Stray animals can carry diseases, which, without proper management and care, pose significant health threats to humans.
In countries around the world, such initiatives funded by the government have proven successful. For example, in Thailand, government-supported shelters have drastically reduced the number of strays and improved community health and safety. Punta Cana deserves the same commitment to its animals and its people.
