Dear Petition Signers ~

On this Earth Day, we don't need reminding that one of the most daunting challenges for life on the planet is and will always be Fukushima Daiichi.

Fukushima Fallout Awareness Network's new sponsor National Institute for Science Law & Public Policy was founded by the late Jim Turner ~ legendary Nader Raider, author of The Chemical Feast, and pioneer/defender of organic food standards. Jim's organization NISLAPP is a Washington, D.C. based NGO with the overriding objective of bringing practitioners of science and law together to develop intelligent policy.

NISLAPP is helping FFAN launch the Campaign for Education and Action fundraiser on Givelify. Educating the public, the media, and especially our elected officials is central to the campaign as we amplify our efforts and double down on the right to know what is in our food supply. Education is key.

TEPCO would have us think that their "treated water" is being responsibly managed, but their slick PR couldn't be further from the truth. Despite a lawsuit filed by fishers and concerned citizens in Japan, widespread opposition from Pacific Island Nations and other countries, and at least 3 United Nations Special Rapporteur's objectors, TEPCO and the Japanese government selfishly restarted their radioactive wastewater dump into the Pacific Ocean yesterday with "round five".  Their countdown continues, and to say the situation is beyond frustrating is an understatement.

As a federal agency, FDA is legally required to respond to the citizen petition Jim Turner helped FFAN and our coalition file but all we’ve received are letters stating FDA needs more time. Meanwhile, they lifted all restrictions on food imports from Japan. Despite media reports that the radioactive wastewater is “treated”, it isn’t a treatment.

Tritium can’t be filtered at all nor diluted to the point of being harmless. To the contrary, it can bioconcentrate and bioaccumulate in the food chain. And food (including Fukushima seafood) banned by other countries is now being redirected to U.S. stores and restaurants. And something that cannot be overlooked is the food grown in our own country. Radioactive fallout on soil doesn't only come from Fukushima (think the Manhattan Project, and Three Mile Island to name a few).  Education is key as we hasten to full renewable energy.

Be sure to check out our website and support the work that FFAN does to help make food safer for all, including future generations on this planet.

Have a safe Earth Day, don't forget Fukushima, and Love Your Mother Earth!
