Greetings,
As shared with you on Earth Day, The Fukushima Fallout Awareness Network has a new sponsor, the National Institute for Science Law & Public Policy. NISLAPP was founded in 1977 by the late Jim Turner ~ legendary Nader Raider, and pioneer/defender of organic food standards. NISLAPP is a Washington, D.C. based NGO with the overriding objective of bringing practitioners of science and law together to develop intelligent policy.
Together we've launched the Campaign for Education and Action. Educating the public, media, and especially elected officials NOW is central as we amplify efforts and double down on the Right to Know what's in our food.
As a federal agency, FDA is legally required to respond to the Citizen Petition Jim Turner helped FFAN and our coalition file but all we’ve received is a letter stating they needed more time until they could further respond to our concerns. Meanwhile, FDA lifted all restrictions on food imports from Japan!
Food (including Fukushima seafood) banned by other countries is now being redirected to U.S. stores and restaurants. And something that cannot be overlooked is the food grown in our own country. Radioactive fallout on soil doesn't only come from Fukushima (think the Manhattan Project, hundreds of nuclear weapons tests, and Three Mile Island to name a few).
Recently FFAN hosted a chat with the filmmakers of a powerful new documentary 12 years in the making, SOS - the San Onofre Syndrome. We can draw a line from Fukushima to the U.S. in what we call not only a widespread syndrome, but specifically the Fukushima-U.S. Connection. It helps to better understand the impact on our food supply as we work to get FDA to respond to the problem while there's still time.
Don't forget that we're all in this together, so please be sure to support FFAN today through our sponsor NISLAPP. We have a right to know what's in our food!
Take care,
Kim
