Das Problem

I call on the European Parliament and the European Union to take urgent and practical action against the ongoing executions, torture, arbitrary arrests, and the persecution and repression of protesters, political prisoners, dissidents, women, ethnic and religious minorities, LGBTQ+ people, human rights defenders, and prisoners of conscience in Iran.

In the first five months of 2026 alone, at least 310 executions have been recorded in Iran. This alarming figure shows that executions are being used as a tool to create fear, suppress society, and exercise political control.

The European Union must not limit its response to statements of concern. The European Union must use all available diplomatic, political, and legal tools to pressure the Islamic Republic of Iran to immediately halt executions, end torture, release political prisoners, and stop the persecution and repression of dissidents and vulnerable groups.

I also call on the European Union and its Member States to recognize that the embassies and diplomatic missions of the Islamic Republic in Europe may pose a potential security risk to people living in Europe, including Iranian dissidents, journalists, human rights defenders, Jewish communities, and other vulnerable groups.

In light of documented concerns regarding transnational repression, threats, surveillance and monitoring, assassination plots, threats of abduction, and hostile activities linked to Iranian state actors, the European Union must urgently review the status and activities of these diplomatic missions.

I respectfully call on the European Parliament and the institutions of the European Union to:

Demand an immediate halt to all executions in Iran, especially the execution of protesters, political prisoners, and prisoners of conscience.
Demand the release of all individuals imprisoned because of peaceful protest, political opinion, religion or belief, human rights work, gender, sexual orientation, identity, or membership in a minority community.
Expand targeted sanctions against Iranian officials, judges, prosecutors, prison authorities, security forces, and institutions responsible for executions, torture, forced confessions, and unfair trials.
Close the embassies, consulates, cultural centers, and diplomatic missions affiliated with the Islamic Republic of Iran across the European Union in cases where there are credible security concerns or evidence of threatening activities, particularly where public safety, dissidents, minorities, or democratic institutions in Europe are at risk.
Expel diplomats and officials of the Islamic Republic who are involved in threats, intimidation, surveillance and monitoring, state propaganda, espionage, transnational repression, or hostile activities against people in Europe.
Support international accountability mechanisms to document crimes, preserve evidence, and hold perpetrators accountable.
Provide stronger protection pathways for Iranians at risk, including human rights defenders, journalists, women's rights activists, LGBTQ+ people, ethnic and religious minorities, former political prisoners, and families of victims.
This petition is not against the people of Iran. It is a request to support them, and also a request to protect people in Europe from transnational repression and hostile activities by the Islamic Republic. The people of Iran deserve to live without fear of execution, torture, imprisonment, or persecution because of their beliefs, identity, peaceful protest, or demand for freedom and human dignity.

I call on the European Union to act now, before more lives are taken and before further threats are carried out on European soil.

Summary

I call on the European Parliament and the European Union to take urgent action to stop executions, torture, and arbitrary arrests in Iran. In the first five months of 2026 alone, at least 310 executions have been recorded in Iran. The European Union must increase diplomatic pressure, expand targeted sanctions, support accountability mechanisms, protect protesters, political prisoners, dissidents, women, minorities, and LGBTQ+ people, and close the embassies and affiliated centers of the Islamic Republic in Europe.
