For 54 years, Coolmine Community School has been a cornerstone of the Dublin 15 community and today it remains essential to education in our area, serving 1,000 students. However, the severe physical deterioration of the school building has reached an unacceptable tipping point. Hundreds of students and staff are forced to learn and work in an outdated facility that compromises their safety, dignity, and education. We urgently need the Department of Education to approve and expedite the application for a new school building.

The most critical issue is the school's failing infrastructure. Persistent roof leaks have caused ongoing water damage, threatening the building’s long-term integrity. Recent patchwork repairs are a short-term solution which will last no more than two years, leaving the school community in a constant state of risk. 

Beyond the structural hazards, the building fails our students in several vital areas:

• Accessibility Barriers: The outdated design severely hampers mobility for students and staff with additional needs.
• Inadequate Sanitation: Insufficient toilet facilities create substandard and undignified conditions for students and staff.
• Access Routes: The limitations of the current building forces children to enter and exit the school directly through a busy car park, creating an ongoing risk of accidents.

A school building should be a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for students. The current condition of Coolmine Community School denies students in our area the equitable education they deserve. Patchwork funding is no longer enough.

We call on the Department of Education to prioritise this application as a matter of urgency and fund a new school building.
