Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations

I, as a concerned Pakistani citizen, urgently appeal to you, in your capacity as a member of the United Nations General Assembly, to initiate an Emergency Special Session (ESS) to address the dire situation in Gaza and the entire indigenous population of Palestine. This plea is made with the intention of activating Article 377A, known as the "Uniting for Peace" Resolution.

 

The ongoing unfathomable humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the Palestinian Territories demands immediate international action. I implore you to leverage your influence to convene an ESS (Emergency Special Session) in the UN General Assembly to invoke Article 377A, especially given the dire gravity of the unfolding genocide in Gaza, an area under brutal siege and occupation.

 

The current conflict is one of the most perilous in modern history, claiming over 25,OOO + lives and higher number injured due to continuous bombardment and safe shelter for the civilian population of GAZA! Ongoing studies show that 40-60% of Gaza's infrastructure has been destroyed.  

Lives lost other than than the civilian population of Gaza include UN personnel, media, medical professionals, and of Israelis citizens themselves. Palestinian civilians in Gaza are disproportionately highly affected, facing death, injury, starvation, exposure to preventable diseases, and harsh dire living conditions. We have seen the death of over 10,000 children alone in 60 days, with that number rising daily!! The escalating violence in the West Bank, including attacks, killings, and illegal arrests, adds to the urgency of the situation. 

 

The indigenous population of Palestine is at an absolute risk of being ethnically cleansed and undergoing a genocide, especially if events continue to unfold as they have been so far.

 

It is evident that the United States supports the violence through continuous funding and providing weaponry to Israel, and diplomatic support by hindering calls for a much-needed ceasefire. That too despite global humanitarian organizations advocating for a ceasefire, the UN's inaction and the passing of unbinding resolution has resulted in great preventable loss of lives. 

 

The fear of the spread of preventable disease and and lack of inadequate medical facilities and medicines is ever more threatening and will definitively add to the cost of more lives than lost than the actual merciless endless bombardment by the Isreali forces themselves. 

WHO, UNRWA, Save the Children and countless other organizations have expliciitely stated that Gaza is at the threshold of a historically unprecedented humanitarian crisis and the continuous failure of the International Community to bring forth a permanent Humanitarian Ceasefire, given the veto this past Friday, has pushed it closer the edge and towards total collapse 

Lack of clean water, food, sanitation, fuel and the imminent cold has further exasperated the situation.

The Pakistani community earnestly urges you to take immediate action by invoking an Emergency Special Session and activating Article 377A to override any potential veto and call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. To bring about a permanent and binding resolution to end the illegal Occupation, besiegement of all the Palestinian Territories and the illegal settlements across the West Bank. Investigation into war crimes must be initiated and the unbearable loss of life MUST have accountability!

We implore you to save remaining innocent lives and contribute to a true peaceful resolution not only for the sake of the Palestinians, but for the sake of humanity. 

You are the final bastion of hope in the world of diplomacy for the citizens of Pakistan Your Excellency. Your speech in October incited hope that a nation as beleaguered as ours still spoke the truth and stood with honour, with conviction. We pray that you will be met with greater honour and success when you continue to speak truth to this ongoing crime against humanity.
