In February 2022, FIFA and UEFA jointly suspended all Russian national teams and clubs from international competitions "until further notice," citing the invasion of Ukraine. The organizations stated, "Football is fully united here and in full solidarity with all the people affected in Ukraine" . This decisive action demonstrated a commitment to upholding peace and unity through sport.

Israel's actions in Gaza have led to significant loss of life and widespread destruction. The United Nations has condemned these actions, with reports indicating that Israeli forces have killed over 31,000 people in Gaza, more than 70% of whom were women and children . These actions have been described as "genocide" by legal experts and have prompted the International Court of Justice to review Israel's compliance with international law .

Legal analyses have highlighted that Israel's conduct violates FIFA's statutes, particularly Articles 3, 4(1), and 5.1(b), which pertain to discrimination, human rights, and humanitarian objectives . Furthermore, over 60 organizations, including the Islamic Human Rights Commission and Citizens International, have called for Israel's suspension from international football competitions, emphasizing the need for consistency in applying sanctions .

Prominent figures in the football community have expressed support for suspending Israel. Former professional footballer Gary Lineker has publicly called for a global boycott of Israeli sports, aligning with the stance taken against South Africa during apartheid .

The suspension of Russia set a significant precedent for holding nations accountable for actions that contravene international law and human rights. To maintain the integrity of FIFA and UEFA's commitment to these principles, it is imperative that similar measures be applied to Israel.
