Urgent Appeal: Fair Re-Evaluation & Justice for Students Affected by CBSE OSM 2026
The Issue
Fair Re-Evaluation & Relief for Students Affected by CBSE 2026 OSM
Petition to CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education)
The CBSE Class 12 results of 2026 have left lakhs of students shocked, distressed, and deeply disappointed. Across India, students who consistently performed well in school, pre-boards, and sample papers have unexpectedly received extremely low marks, borderline passing scores, or “Essential Repeat/Compartment” results.
A major concern among students and parents is the implementation of the new OSM (On-Screen Marking) evaluation system. While modernization is important, the sudden shift in the checking process appears to have created inconsistency and harsh evaluation in many answer sheets. The impact has been severe.
More than 2,60,000 students have reportedly been placed in compartment or essential repeat categories. Thousands of students who were expecting fair and balanced scores are now facing uncertainty regarding college admissions, entrance examinations, scholarships, and even their academic future.
This situation has also been worsened by the delayed declaration of results, which has increased anxiety and reduced the time students have to apply for universities, entrance counselling, and other opportunities.
Students are not demanding unfair advantages. We are only asking for transparency, fairness, and reasonable relief for those affected by inconsistent evaluation.
Our Demand
1. Fair and Transparent Re-Evaluation
CBSE should conduct a proper and unbiased re-evaluation process for students who believe their marks do not reflect their performance. Answer sheets must be reviewed carefully and consistently instead of relying only on technical or rushed checking methods.
2. Relief for Students with Compartment in One Subject
Students who have received compartment/essential repeat in only one subject should be considered for passing through:
fair grace marks where justified,
proper re-evaluation,
moderation policies,
and balanced checking standards,
so that deserving students are not forced to lose an entire academic year or has to give compartment exam because of marginal marks or inconsistent evaluation.
3. Reduction or Removal of Re-Evaluation Fees
Since a very large number of students are dissatisfied with their results, the current re-evaluation costs place financial pressure on families. CBSE should either:
make re-evaluation free of cost, or
significantly reduce the fees,
so students can apply for multiple subjects without financial strain.
Why This Matters
Board examination results shape college admissions, careers, confidence, and mental well-being. Students work for years preparing for these exams, and they deserve a system that is fair, transparent, and reliable.
We respectfully urge CBSE to listen to students, parents, and teachers across the country and take immediate action to ensure justice for affected students.
Sign this petition to support fair evaluation, reasonable relief, and protection of students’ academic futures.
