Dear supporters,

We are heartbroken to share news of yet another tragic incident at the Witherow Dam Quarry in Heidedal, Bloemfontein. On October 16, 2025, 20-year-old Benjamin van Wyk has been reported as a drowning victim while swimming in these perilous waters, adding to the growing list of avoidable deaths at this neglected site. After an intensive police search, his body is still not retrieved. Today is day 7 of the continued search , a stark reminder of the quarry's deep and treacherous conditions.

To honour  Benjamin and other victims of the quarry, the Heidedal Church Commitment will hold a Memorial Prayer Service on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 10am at the Heidedal Quarry Dam. Entitled "HCC Remembering Benjamin Van Wyk & Others of a Life Cut Short," it calls on all community members to come together in solidarity with the grieving families. Reach out to Apst G. Swarts (0812746474) or Pst T. Van Roooyen (0828353862) for further information.

This latest loss amplifies the vital importance of our petition to secure and restore the quarry. While we've made progress with initial successes like parliamentary acknowledgment, we are still awaiting feedback from Parliament, though it should arrive anytime soon. In the meantime, these ongoing tragedies demand action now. Join us by spreading the word to push for essential measures like fencing, signage, and comprehensive rehabilitation to save lives.

United, we can drive real change.

Thank you for standing with us.
