Urgent Action Needed to Tackle Drug Use at Green Man Passage, West Ealing W130TG

The Issue

To: Metropolitan Police (Elthorne / West Ealing units), Ealing Council, Safer Communities Team

Subject: Demand for immediate measures to safeguard our neighbourhood — residents, children, and places of worship

The Problem
We, the undersigned residents and community stakeholders of Green Man Passage, West Ealing, call for urgent intervention to address ongoing drug-related activity and anti-social behaviour in and around the public passage adjacent to Busy Bees nursery and St Savva Serbian Orthodox Church.

Our key concerns include:

  • Frequent presence of drug users or dealers in the passage and surrounding areas, sometimes during school drop-off / pick-up times.
  • Evidence (or reports) of drug paraphernalia (needles, wrappers) being left behind, posing severe health risks — especially to children, staff, the elderly, and visitors to the church.
  • Inadequate CCTV coverage, lighting or security presence in the Passage, making it a “dark spot” that emboldens illicit activity.
Insufficient police patrols or visible enforcement in the area, leading to a sense of impunity.
  • The proximity to a nursery and a place of worship increases the urgency — families and vulnerable people must be protected.

What We Demand
To restore safety, trust, and dignity to our community, we urge:

  • Regular, visible police patrols dedicated to the Green Man Passage / adjacent roads, especially at peak times (mornings, afternoons, evenings).
  • Installation (or upgrade) of CCTV cameras covering all sections of the passage, with signage indicating monitoring.
  • Improved lighting and environmental design (e.g. removal of hiding spots, trimming overgrowth, clear sightlines) to reduce opportunity for concealment.
  • Swift removal and safe disposal of any drug-related paraphernalia found on site, and prompt clean-ups.
  • Community engagement and reporting mechanism — regular liaison between police, Ealing Council, neighbourhood groups, nursery, and church to monitor incidents, share data, and respond.
  • Transparent reporting on outcomes — police/council publicly publishing monthly updates on arrests, enforcement, and progress in the area.

Why This Matters

  • Child safety: The passage is adjacent to a nursery; children or staff could be exposed to needles or dangerous behaviour.
  • Community well-being: Residents, worshippers, and visitors deserve to walk in this area without fear or anxiety.
  • Public health: Drug paraphernalia in public spaces is a significant health hazard.
  • Crime prevention: Visible enforcement and environmental improvements deter crime and rebuild trust.
