The Issue

Our community in Rivers Edge Estate, Spectra Park, and the surrounding areas faces a pressing challenge that could affect our quality of life, safety, and financial stability. We call upon Warrington Borough Council to reject the revised Public Open Space (POS) proposals submitted under Planning Application 2025/01424/EA.

When we invested in our homes, we anticipated a safe, accessible, and natural public open space that would serve as a hub for recreation and play for all residents—especially our children and elderly members. Regrettably, the revised plans threaten this vision with significant, undesirable changes.

The proposed redesign elevates the areas meant for recreational activities and children's playgrounds, compromising safety and accessibility. It's an alarming deviation from the original promise of a level, welcoming landscape, thereby imposing barriers for families, elderly residents, and individuals with mobility challenges.

Moreover, the complex drainage infrastructure now necessitated by the altered ground levels poses several concerns. These systems could potentially lead to unsustainable future maintenance liabilities—liabilities that might result in added service charges passed onto residents. There are valid concerns regarding the long-term safety, performance, and sustainability of these drainage solutions, and their effectiveness in handling water runoff and preventing erosion over time.

The concerns extend beyond financial strain, touching upon the essence of our community's safety and well-being. Approving the POS proposals in their current state jeopardizes the accessibility and usability of the space, turning what was meant to be a communal asset into a potential hazard.

We stand united in opposition to these revised plans, seeking a return to the safer, considerate designs we were initially promised. We urge the council to listen to the voices of those who live here and prioritize public safety and community well-being.

By signing this petition, you're standing up for the principles of safety, fairness, and quality of life in our valuable community. Please support us in urging Warrington Borough Council to reject the unsafe open space plans and liaise closely with affected residents to develop viable, community-focused alternatives.
