The Issue

Recently since 2026 driving my 2017 Passat, the clock on the entertainment system remained stuck at 00:00. What might seem like a minor issue to some has been a persistent annoyance not just for me, but for many others across the United States who own 2016-2017 VW vehicles with MIB2 systems.

Attempting to make the most of our cars' features, we are reminded daily by something as simple as a nonfunctional clock that Volkswagen hasn't addressed this issue for us. In a previous petition, Volkswagen provided a firmware update to rectify this issue for certain EU MIB2 units, leaving us, the US customers, without a solution.

The frustration isn't only about the clock not displaying the correct time, it's about feeling overlooked. This seemingly small fault affects many proud VW owners' daily lives, impacting routines, appointments, and a driver's overall experience. Moreover, for a leading automotive brand, resolving such issues should be a matter of priority.

It’s essential for automotive companies, particularly iconic brands like Volkswagen, to remember the essence of quality service and customer satisfaction. We, the affected owners, deserve the same level of attention and rectification already provided to our European counterparts.

This petition urgently calls for Volkswagen to release the necessary firmware update to fix this clock issue in 2016/2017 Jetta, Passat, Tiguan models in the United States. The solution has already been crafted and rolled out once—our vehicles deserve the same attention.

  • Despite software updates and resets, the clock cannot be set or updated. This is a malfunction in the multimedia MIB2 infotainment system that negatively impacts user experience.
  • Moreover, the estimated time of arrival (ETA) displayed by the MIB2 GPS is also incorrect, since it is calculated based on a wrong departure time (00:00). As a result, the navigation system provides misleading arrival predictions, making route planning unreliable.

We call on Volkswagen to:

  • Officially acknowledge the defect
  • Provide a free fix or software update for all affected vehicles
  • Ensure the fix can be installed free of charge at authorized VW service centers
  • Communicate clearly with customers about the repair process

By signing this petition, you are standing up for fair treatment and urging Volkswagen to fulfill the promise of quality and reliability that their brand stands for. Sign this petition to force action on a long-overdue fix that brings time back on track—literally—for all affected vehicles!
