The Issue

I am a transgender athlete on HRT as part of my gender affirming care. USA Powerlifting Association's (USAPL) current policy to universally restrict testosterone from their Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUE) bars myself and other transgender athletes on HRT from competing in this federation.

USAPL's policy is exclusionary and takes away opportunities for transgender people to compete in sports under fair and supportive conditions. According to recent studies, inclusive sports policies for transgender athletes have not been shown to create unfair competitive advantages. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is a critical part of medical care for many transgender individuals, helping align their physical health with their gender identity.

For transgender athletes like myself, participating in competitive sports is not just about winning medals; it's about dignity, mental health, and belonging. It's vital for sports organizations to create inclusive environments where everyone, regardless of their gender identity, can compete without facing systemic discrimination.

The USAPL’s refusal to recognize testosterone as part of TUE policies undercuts the fairness and equality that sports are supposed to represent. According to the American Medical Association, not permitting transgender athletes to participate undermines their mental and physical well-being, which is contrary to the spirit of sportsmanship.

By signing this petition, you're taking a stand for the inclusion, respect, and fair treatment of transgender athletes. Urge USAPL to revise its hormone policy and allow all athletes to compete safely and fairly. Sign the petition and support transgender athletes in their fight for equality in sports.
