The Issue

I am an avid BMX racer, and cruiser racing has always been my preferred style on the track. However, the current system at Nationals discourages my participation. Like many others, I find racing cruisers at Nationals to be a financial strain due to the disparity in event organization and incentives.

Cruiser classes are hugely popular; at numerous national events, the number of cruiser participants matches or even surpasses those in the 20-inch categories. Despite this, USABMX currently limits NAG numbers to the top 10 amateur cruisers, while the 20-inch class is plated up to 20. This inequity is not only discouraging but also unjust, thereby dampening the enthusiasm for cruiser racing.

Increasing the NAG numbers for amateur cruiser classes up to 20 would result in a significant positive shift. This change would not only validate the cruisers' passion and commitment but would likely promote increased participation at the Nationals. With more racers finding value in competing, the entire event would benefit from elevated levels of excitement and competition.

Growing the cruiser class is realistic and feasible. USABMX could implement expanded plating with ease, considering the demand is already present. Many racers, including myself, feel sidelined by the current limitations, and this change would create a fairer and more inclusive competitive environment.

Moreover, acknowledging the vibrant cruiser community by awarding NAG plates up to 20 can lead to increased attendance, more membership renewals, and a broader talent pool showcasing their skills. It's time to uplift cruiser racing to the same standard as the 20-inch class and give every rider the opportunity to achieve recognition for their hard work and dedication.

Join me in urging USABMX to consider this vital adjustment. Sign this petition to expand NAG numbers for amateur cruiser classes and revitalize cruiser racing at Nationals!
