Urge University of Louisiana at Lafayette to keep Cade Farm and Ecology Center

The Issue

As a master’s student in environmental resource science and a graduate of UL Lafayette’s environmental science program, I have personally benefited from the Cade Experimental Farm and the Ecology Center. These are not just properties, but they are essential learning spaces.

Our program depends on hands-on field experience. Students learn soils, plant identification, and local ecosystem types like the Cajun Prairie and wetlands by working directly in the field. Without these facilities, future students will lose critical opportunities for practical and real-world training.

Selling these locations would weaken the quality of education and research at UL Lafayette. These spaces support student learning and faculty research. They are part of what makes our environmental programs strong and distinctive.

I urge the UL System Board and university administration to reconsider the sale of the Cade Experimental Farm and Ecology Center. Protect these facilities for current students, future students, and the broader community.

Please sign this petition to help preserve these vital educational resources.
