Urge U.S. Congress to condemn North Korea’s human rights abuses

The Issue

North Korea remains one of the most repressive regimes in the world today, operating under a government that consistently commits grave human rights abuses. Despite international condemnation, the North Korean government has persisted in its substantial suppression of its population's fundamental freedoms. Brokering change on this issue requires definitive action from global leaders, and it is critical that entities like the U.S. Congress provide formal condemnation.

According to reports from various human rights organizations, millions of North Koreans are subjected to forced labor, public executions, enforced disappearances, and widespread systematic oppression. The United Nations Commission of Inquiry has documented human rights violations on a scale that reveals a totalitarian state which uses fear and networks of informers to intimidate its population, depriving them of freedom of thought, expression, and movement.

Furthermore, North Korea's political prison camps are thought to contain up to 120,000 people, where torture, starvation, and summary executions run rampant. The repression of basic human rights in North Korea contravenes all established international norms and laws, and it is the responsibility of influential nations to challenge other countries' unlawful actions.

The U.S., as a beacon of human rights advocacy and democratic ideals, must lead by example. By passing a resolution that openly condemns these atrocities, it doesn’t just signal to North Korea that the international community is not turning a blind eye but also strengthens global efforts to put pressure on the regime to end such abuses.

We call upon the U.S. Congress to demonstrate leadership and commitment to human rights by passing a resolution unequivocally denouncing North Korea’s human rights abuses. This resolution could pave the way for more international cooperation in applying diplomatic pressure on North Korea to reform its practices.

Join us in urging Congress to take a stand against these inhumane practices and be a part of the global call to uphold human dignity and rights. Please sign this petition and send a powerful message—human rights must be respected everywhere.
