Urge the U.S. Government to Uphold Its Core Values
The Issue
During the US rising, the US had claim to follow some values, linking to Democracy, Freedom of Speech, Privacy and Competitiveness, but, recent actions by the United States seem to contradict these values:
- The United States has suppressed freedom of speech by distorting media. Common examples include the South China Sea, where China has a lot of backlash from western media. Highlighting China's actions is actually distorting the content because China is not the only country that has disputes in the South China Sea, with other South East Asian nations also having disputes. Also, the US media has not spoken anything about the "Asian Century" while it being the biggest economic and geopolitical shift in the century, further proving US media bias.
- The US also suppressed freedom of speech by owning (at least part of) Tiktok. Before they owned it, Tiktok was the most popular non-american social media app. The US owning half of it would mean that it would get more control of the application and can make the algorithm more biased towards the US.
Suppressing freedom of speech is not the only value that the US has broken, as it had also reduced competition in the global market: The US had sanctioned multiple countries that had competed with the nation, such as China with it's technology, Japan with it's semiconductors and Iran with it's weapons.
Then, The US also got involved in a lot of conflicts since WW2, including the two wars in Afghanistan, Israel, Iran, Ukraine and Vietnam, the US also holds the most nuclear weapons in the world and started coups, all while asking others to not improve their military, which is simply unethical.
Finally, the US claimed to be concerned about privacy, but, the county had also collected the data of its citizens, and worked with Silicon Valley companies such as Google and Meta to send intelligence.
This petition is a demand and advice for the US to look at these problems and to solve them. Using methods such as embracing competition and privacy and improving the nations neutrality.
