Urge the PA Game Commission to Allow Pennsylvanians to Adopt Starlings and Sparrows

The Issue

I am a Pennsylvania resident and bird lover. Oftentimes, baby starlings and sparrows are found fallen from their nest and are in need of care and assistance. Unfortunately, most wildlife rehabs will not help or rehabilitate an invasive species. However, there are many people who would find joy in helping and raising a bird in need. I find our state's laws archaic as we are allowed to brutally kill starlings and sparrows, yet, we're forbidden from providing them safe and loving homes. I have personally witnessed the strong bonds formed between these birds and humans in other states, and I firmly believe that starlings and sparrows make excellent companions. (Mozart himself even had a pet starling!) Despite being labeled as invasive species, these birds deserve compassion and understanding like any other creature. There's evidence across the United States of the extraordinary companionability of these birds, and I think it's high time we amend outdated laws.

The PA Game Commission's current stance not only affects the lives of these beautiful creatures, but it also deprives Pennsylvania residents of the joy and fulfillment that comes from raising and nurturing them. We propose a reasonable change: allow starlings and sparrows to become non-releasable pets.

Let's advocate for a society that values all lives, inclusive of starlings and sparrows. Let's revise the state laws so Pennsylvanians can legally adopt these birds, giving them a second chance at life. We urge the PA Game Commission to reconsider and amend these outdated laws. Please sign this petition and support a more compassionate Pennsylvania for all, including our feathered friends.
