Urge the Inner West Council to Honour AC/DC with a Plaque

Urge the Inner West Council to Honour AC/DC with a Plaque
The issue
AC/DC was probably the most prominent rock band and musical group to ever leave Australia and was officially born right here in Newtown, NSW. As residents of this vibrant community, many of us feel a deep connection to their music and history. Despite their global fame and the deep roots they have in our area, there is a noticeable absence of recognition in the form of a physical tribute within Newtown.
A commemorative plaque would serve not only as an homage to the band's enduring legacy but also as a symbol of local pride. This initiative intends to acknowledge the cultural and historical significance AC/DC holds for Newtown and to immortalize the place where it all began.
AC/DC formed in late 1973, catalyzing the hard rock genre with hits like 'Highway to Hell' and 'Back in Black.' Many fans unknowingly walk the streets where the band members first came together; a plaque would educate both locals and visitors about this significant piece of music history.
The Newtown community has benefited tremendously from its rich musical background, drawing tourists and music enthusiasts alike to our streets. Recognizing AC/DC with a plaque would not only enrich our communal heritage but also enhance the cultural landscape of Newtown for future generations.
We call upon the Inner West Council to recognize the importance of AC/DC to our community’s cultural fabric. Installing a plaque is a tangible, manageable action that would mean a great deal to residents and fans alike.
Sign this petition to urge our local council to honour AC/DC's legacy with a plaque on the corner of Wilson St and Erskineville Road Newtown, NSW on the wall of the Thai Pothong directly below the Gym building. Your signature will help preserve and highlight the rich musical history that is so integral to our identity.
