Urge the House of Representatives to Include Reddit in H.R. 7521's Ban or Divest List

Urge the House of Representatives to Include Reddit in H.R. 7521's Ban or Divest List
The Issue
I am deeply concerned about the influence of foreign entities on our digital platforms, particularly those with ties to authoritarian regimes. As a regular user, I have noticed a disturbing trend on Reddit, a popular social media platform, originally designed by a grass roots American development team, for the purpose of free speech now owned by Tencent - a semi state-run Chinese tech monopoly.
Reddit's increasingly far-left socialist and anti-free speech moderation policies are increasingly alarming. These policies not only suppress diverse viewpoints but also pose potential threats to our national security, similar to TikTok and Bytedance which are already under scrutiny due to their Chinese ownership.
It is crucial that we consider the implications of allowing such platforms unrestricted access within our borders. According to Freedom House’s 2020 report, China is actively using its technological prowess for mass surveillance and information manipulation both domestically and abroad (source: Freedom House). The same technology powers platforms like Reddit, potentially exposing millions of Americans' data.
H.R. 7521 aims at protecting American citizens from such threats by banning harmful social media web domains with Chinese parent companies. However, it currently does not include Reddit in its list of banned domains - an oversight that needs immediate rectification.
In light of these concerns and for the sake of preserving free speech and national security online, I urge you all to support this petition asking the House Representatives to add Reddit into H.R. 7521's list of banned domains under Chinese parent companies.
