Urge the Grant-Valkaria Town Council to Reject Commercial Re-Zoning Request

The Issue

As residents of the tranquil town of Grant-Valkaria, we cherish our serene lifestyle. A recent development, however, threatens to disrupt this tranquility. SE Petro, a gas station company, is attempting to rezone two agricultural lots at the southeast corner of Grant and Babcock into commercial property for building a gas station. We strongly believe that this commercialization is not in the best interests of our community.

Rezoning these lots could lead to an increase in traffic, pollution, and crime. Our town has a thriving agricultural sector, which could be threatened by this shift in land use. We rely heavily on our agricultural activities, and redefining the use of these plots could harm local farmers, and the livelihoods they support as well be a traffic hazard at an already dangerous intersection.

According to a study by the American Farmland Trust (AFT), agricultural lands not only contribute to the local economy through job creation and income generation, they also provide aesthetic value and a sense of calm and harmony that are hard to quantify. Losing our agricultural land could also have negative impacts on local wildlife and ecosystems.

We, the residents, understand the need for business growth and development, but not at the cost of our lifestyle and the preservation of agricultural lands. Therefore, we urge the Grant-Valkaria Town Council to uphold our community values, the Town Charter and to vote against SE Petro's re-zoning request.

Stand with us in safeguarding the charm and tranquility of Grant-Valkaria. Sign the petition to compel our Town Council to reject the commercial re-zoning request and protect our agricultural heritage.
