The Issue

Antisemitism in Florida and across the United States is an escalating, documented crisis. Year after year, law enforcement data and civil rights organizations show antisemitic incidents—ranging from harassment & vandalism to threats against community centers and houses of worship as well as deadly attacks—continue to break historical records.

When Jewish Floridians, Democrats, independents, and allies see these numbers rise, they look to political leaders for an unambiguous stance. This petition is open to all—regardless of party affiliation or state residency—because the defense of human dignity and safety transcends partisan and geographic boundaries.

Grounding Action in Florida’s Bipartisan Momentum
Florida has already demonstrated a clear, bipartisan recognition of this threat at multiple levels of government:
• Statewide Legislative Leadership: The Florida House overwhelmingly passed legislation such as HB 187, which relies explicitly on the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition to identify and address antisemitism. Lawmakers across the aisle recognized that having a clear, standardized definition is essential for public entities and law enforcement to monitor and confront hate effectively.
• Municipal-Level Consensus: Beyond Tallahassee, numerous local municipal governments across the state have adopted the IHRA definition with strong, bipartisan support. City commissions and local leaders have stepped up to protect their neighborhoods, proving that this standard transcends partisan divides.

Why Action is Required Now
Because Florida is home to one of the largest Jewish populations in the nation, its political decisions carry profound weight nationwide. Adopting the IHRA working definition is a natural, urgent, and necessary step for the Florida Democratic Party:
• Reassuring the Community: By formally embracing the IHRA framework (referenced via the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance Working Definition of Antisemitism), the party sends a powerful signal of solidarity, robust protection to vulnerable communities.
• Aligning with Local and State Progress: As local municipalities and state legislators embrace clear tools to combat hate, political organizations must lead by example, ensuring internal alignment with measures that protect public safety.
• Establishing a Clear Standard: Adopting this definition removes ambiguity, drawing a bright line against prejudice and ensuring that party leadership at every level is fully equipped to identify and condemn antisemitism in all its modern manifestations.

The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of anti-Semitism provides a clear, concise, and globally endorsed description that helps us better identify and address anti-Semitic incidents. The IHRA definition is currently adopted by over 40 countries and multiple organizations worldwide, demonstrating its effectiveness and acceptance as a tool to counter anti-Semitic behavior.

We call on the leadership of the Florida Democratic Party to provide absolute reassurance to Floridians—particularly Jewish Democrats and independents—that their safety, dignity, and civil rights are core, non-negotiable values. Add your name today to demand action.
