Urge the EU to Prohibit the Faroese Grindadráp

Urge the EU to Prohibit the Faroese Grindadráp
The Issue
Picture this: last year, a tragic event happened where over 1,500 dolphins were slaughtered in one single grindadráp in the Faroe Islands. A gut wrenching act perpetrated in a place where the population stands at meager 50,000, meaning that approximately one innocent dolphin was extinguished for every 30 island dwellers. And this was not a one-off, these atrocities occur with alarming regularity every year.
The Faroe Islands are a beautiful part of the European Union, yet there is a dark side to this picturesque location. These repeated grindadráps (a traditional whaling method) are not only an inhumane exploitation of marine life, but an affront to environmental balance. Even more striking is the fact that over 50% of the Faroese population is against whaling in any form. It is clear that there is a significant call for change, not just from abroad, but from within the islands themselves.
We are therefore urgently calling on the European Union to put proper regulations in place to prohibit this brutal grindadráp practice in the Faroe Islands. By doing so, not only will we be protecting the lives of these beautiful and intelligent creatures, but also answering the call for change from the very citizens of the Faroe Islands. This action will symbolize an important step in Europe's commitment to safeguard marine life and uphold the values of animal welfare that the Union holds dear.
every time there is a sighting of the beautiful white sided dolphins, local boats report the sighting and those on land prepare to slaughter them. all while the whole pod, children and mothers included, get herded by ships towards a local beach. the fishermen don’t even have a choice in the matter, they MUST report any sightings of either pilot whales or white sided dolphins by faroese law!
For the dolphins, for the Faroese people, for the preservation of our marine ecosystems, we urge you - help us prohibit the Faroese grindadráp. Please sign our petition today!
