The Issue

The closure of Marsh Lock Horsebridge is having a really bad effect on our lives and businesses. The famous Thames path to Shiplake is no longer walkable and the numerous swimming spots along the river are no longer reachable. This wooden bridge, closed since May 2022, was once my  favourite walking spot with my dog and my family and friends and an incredible outdoor space for many children and adults in the area.

Marsh Lock Horsebridge is more than just a bridge – it is a crucial part of our community. Since it's been closed, many local businesses who rely on the footfall from walkers and river-goers have been badly effected. A critical requirement to bring back the bridge is for the Environment Agency to acquire around £1M of funds from DEFRA. I believe that this investment is a small price to pay for the immense value it will bring back to our community for years to come.

Please sign this petition to urge the Environment Agency to secure the funding to repair and reopen Marsh Lock Horsebridge.

Let’s bring back our beloved bridge and restore this key pathway in our community. By signing, you are supporting not just a bridge, but a way of life for local residents and businesses.
