Urge the council to consult on Churchill road hump removal

Urge the council to consult on Churchill road hump removal
The Issue
I’ve recently been granted a new Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle, and frequently, I traverse the road that connects multiple quaint and vibrant villages around Churchill, Oxfordshire, in a transport ambulance. It’s a route I cherish, taking me through beautiful countrysides and vibrant communities. However, the recent installation of the sleeping policeman hump on Churchill road has posed significant challenges not only for vehicles like mine but also for high-class vehicles such as Lamborghinis and Porsches. This obstacle discourages these vehicles from using this road, which in turn impacts businesses relying on patrons visiting local establishments.
The main B road that links Bledington, Icomb, Foscott, Lyneham, and Kingham to Chipping Norton is heavily frequented and is a vital connection for businesses and residents alike. The newly installed hump causes significant inconvenience and could deter visitors who enjoy driving through this picturesque region. Furthermore, it may inadvertently push traffic to alternative routes, increasing congestion and possibly leading to more accidents on roads not designed for high traffic.
Moreover, the disruption may result in reduced patronage for local pubs and shops, hindering the livelihoods of the local community. The new gated traffic chicane at the other end would have, managed traffic flow while maintaining accessibility for all road users, from ambulances to luxury cars.
We call upon the Council to thoroughly consult with local businesses and residents to evaluate the necessity and impact of this sleeping policeman hump. A comprehensive assessment, considering the local economy, accessibility of emergency vehicles, and general road safety, is essential.
We believe a more balanced approach can be found—one that supports both the safety and accessibility of all road users, preserving the charm and accessibility of our beloved roads. By signing this petition, we urge the Council to take proactive measures in addressing and revisiting their decision for the betterment of the entire community.
