The Issue

Our beloved street vendor, Ben Newman, fondly referred to as Spudman, was guaranteed the restoration of his original pitch by the Tamworth Borough Council after renovation works to St Edithas Square were finished. Spudman is not just a vendor, but a vital fixture in this town, contributing significantly to our community's spirit. Each month, he attracts thousands of visitors, invigorating the town center with lively trade.

In March, a commitment was made by the Council Leader to return Spudman to his deserving spot. An unfortunate u-turn on this promise has caused distress and resentment amongst us, supporters and benefactors of Ben Newman’s contributions. Independent traders like Spudman are the lifeblood of Tamworth; they bolster our local economy and foster a unique sense of community that cannot be replicated by any corporation.

Therefore, we urge the Tamworth Council to uphold its previous commitments and reinstate Spudman's original pitch. His return will not only symbolize support for independent traders but will also reinforce Tamworth's reputation as a thriving town center that values its local businesses. Stand with us in urging the Tamworth Council to right this wrong. Sign this petition to show your support for Spudman and the irreplaceable character he brings to our community.
