As someone who regularly flies Southwest Airlines for business, I've been extremely grateful for their generous no-charge for bags policy. This policy has allowed many individuals, including myself, to fly without out additional stress or unexpected financial burden. Now, we've learned that Southwest is considering implementing a baggage fee like many other airlines. With the potential change, I am concerned that Southwest will lose its unique selling point and consequently, loyal customers like myself.

Baggage fees are on the rise in the airline industry. According to the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics, U.S. airlines collected more than $5.7 billion in baggage fees in 2019 (source: U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics). While these fees provide additional revenue for airlines, they pose financial hardships on numerous passengers. Many airline customers, especially those traveling for businesses, appreciate Southwest’s no-charge for bags policy, as it offers a cost-effective and hassle-free travel experience.

We urge Southwest Airlines not to sacrifice customer loyalty for the sake of extra revenue. Please, retain the no-charge for bags policy to continue serving your customers’ needs effectively and differentiate yourself from other airlines.
