Dear Chester Supporters,

We are very happy to announce that there is some positive progress regarding the widening of the pavement around Chester to ensure that buggies, wheelchairs, mobility scooters and those with mobility issues will be able to safely and easily pass Chester the London plane tree.

Yellow notices are now clearly visible in Chichester Road near Chester, stating that Highways propose to reduce the road to a single northbound lane between York Road and Tylers Avenue and install a build out.

This means that, at last, the pavement will be wide enough to allow safe access for all, whilst ensuring that our wonderful London plane tree does not need to be removed to allow this.

This does not mean that Chester is saved however, since there is still the matter of the vacant land for development adjacent to the tree.  But it does at least eliminate one threat.

We will (as ever!) be keeping a close eye on developments regarding both the road layout changes and the proposed development site.

Huge thanks for your support throughout this campaign and please ensure you can keep up to date with any news by following our Facebook page @savechester

With gratitude and love,

The Save Chester Team.

P.S. Please feel free to drop a quick comment of support for this proposal by Highways to TraffWeb@southend.gov.uk, including reference PTO1310 by 4th May. Thank you!!
