Dear Chester supporters,
We’d like to share the great news with you that, at long last, the Tree Preservation Order on Chester has been approved and made permanent!
Huge thanks to everyone who has given support over the last couple of years to progress the campaign to the point we have reached now. Whether you have shared the petition, contributed to the crowdfunder or written positive representations during the TPO consultation, it is really appreciated!
The not-so-great news (as we’re sure many of you are well aware) is that a TPO does not ultimately mean that the tree is saved. Until the protections on our mature trees in this country are strengthened, there is still real threat to Chester from Highways or from the developer.
At the Council Planning meeting when the TPO was ratified Highways stated that they have audited the works to alter the road layout next to the tree in order to widen and make fully accessible to pavement around Chester. They stated that they hope to do this in the next couple of months, so this is really encouraging and, when carried out, will mean that the threat of removal due to safe and accessible pavement issues will be resolved so we are keeping everything crossed!
Once again, thank you for your support throughout this long campaign and please connect and follow any further updates on our Facebook page @savechester https://www.facebook.com/groups/savechester
With gratitude and love,
The Save Chester Team.
