Dear Chester Supporters,
A couple of weeks ago Chester was lucky enough to have a visit from Monica Feria-Tinta (@internationallawbarrister) and Paul Wood (@thestreettree). On the morning of their visit, they recorded a discussion about our connection with the trees and nature around us in relation to our Human Rights.
The video provides some really interesting points and highlights the way in which trees such as Chester could (and should!) obtain much needed protection in law.
As mentioned in this discussion, Chesters’s plight is a test case and could set an important precedent with ramifications for many other trees around the country at threat of removal
It is long overdue that recognition is given of how essential our connection to nature and well-being are and ensure that our right to trees and nature are considered, wherever we may live. As Monica says, it is vital we must do so before we risk losing the little bit of natural world we have left.
Thank you so much for your patience as we continue to work behind the scenes doing all we can to protect Chester, our precious London Plane. We have had continued dialogue with Southend Council and will update on this in due course.
As ever, please continue to follow updates on our Facebook page (@SaveChesterSouthend), get involved in our Facebook group (@SaveChester) and keep everything crossed for a positive outcome for Chester!
With gratitude and love,
The Save Chester Team.
