In February 2026, during the annual membership meeting, finance reports and discussions emphasized  there would  not be an increase in dues or the need for an assessment. However,  less than 4 months later in June the Seabrook Island Club (SIC) June Board of Governors (BoG) approved the Expanding Horizons resolution. This  will pose a significant strain on some members finances. The actions of the SIC Board have left many members concerned about the financial direction in which our club is heading.

SIC members deserve transparency and responsible governance, and the decisions taken by the Board should reflect our collective member needs and interests rather than a few. The approval of projects like Expanding Horizons (player development center and beach club renovation) raises questions about accountability and the commitment of the Board to uphold financial promises made during the 2026 annual meeting,

Given the plans to increase dues, fees and an assessment for all  Members beginning  1 January 2027. These increase in costs are worrisome, particularly for members on fixed incomes or those who joined  or continue their memberships expecting financially sustainable club management. As club members, it is crucial for us to voice our concerns and advocate for financial decisions that reflect the priorities and desires of all members.

Concrete steps can be taken to ensure more transparency and member engagement in decision-making processes. Establishing a members' financial oversight committee could contribute to independent review of fiscal strategies and spending. Increased frequency of financial reviews and communication from the Board regarding future projects and their implications would foster trust and collaboration among all members.

This petition calls upon the Board of Governors to immediately halt further spending on projects, such as Expanding Horizons, until a comprehensive financial review is undertaken with ample member involvement. Furthermore, we urge the Board to provide a detailed explanation of the discrepancies between past promises and current actions, ensuring a clear transmission of their decision-making process.

Members of Seabrook Island Club, must stand together to influence change and ensure a financially responsible future for our club & community. Sign this petition to demand transparency, fiscal responsibility, and respect for member voices in our club's governance.
